FAQs

Important Information

Do you have Public Liability Insurance (PLI)?

Yes – unlike many mobile DJs, I am insured to £2,000,000 so that in the extremely unlikely event of any accidents, everyone concerned is covered.

Premises often ask for DJs to show their PLI certificate before they begin setting up. They can be refused entry without this proof. This means that if you hire a DJ that has no PLI, you may have to try to find another DJ on the same day as your event!

Does your equipment pass the Portable Appliance Test (PAT)?

Yes – all of my equipment is checked annually. PAT testing is important and ensures that my electrical equipment complies with UK Health and Safety guidelines. It tests that the plugs and cables that supply power to my equipment are safe to use.

Some DJs may operate without appropriate testing. As with Public Liabilty Insurance, premises often ask for DJs to show their PAT certificates before they begin setting up. They can be refused entry without this proof. This means that if you hire a DJ that has no PAT approval, you may have to find another DJ on the day of your event!

Experience and Conduct

What is your experience?

I have DJ’d at many private events such as birthdays, engagements, weddings, as well as many mainstream bars and clubs throughout the country.

I specialise in playing commercial, mainstream, popular music, which covers a wide variety of genres.

What does your typical set consist of?

I play songs that the audience will both recognise and enjoy. I do not play “underground” or non-commercial tracks. Some DJs choose to play their favourite music and nothing else. My eight years of experience have taught me what crowds of different ages do and do not like, which allows me to play something for everyone!

Do you talk on the microphone?

Absolutely. I believe that a DJ’s job is to help build the party atmosphere. I encourage requests and people giving messages to friends (or “shout-outs”!).

Some DJs don’t have enough experience to say the right things on the mic. Infact, some DJs remain silent throughout a set. With ten years of DJ experience, I make sure what I say is entertaining, relevant and not offensive to your crowd.

Also that stack of experience allows me to avoid talking over the lead vocals in any song, because I know how annoying it is for a DJ to speak over your favourite tunes. Instead, I’ll talk in the intros of tracks, or over the outros, (in a similar way to what you’d hear on the radio). This means I can strike the perfect balance between not saying anything and not building an atmosphere, and talking rubbish for the sake of it!

This is a family event – you won’t play tracks with swear words in, will you?

No, don’t worry. I'll pick appropriate songs for the crowd that are in. I’ll only play the unedited tracks if it’s appropriate, and I’m certain the crowd won’t be offended!

Technical

Can you "mix"?

Yeah, I can beatmatch tunes together so they run in time and sound good, and I do this whenever it is appropriate to do so. I don’t try to mix everything just for the sake of it, like a lot of amateur DJs attempt to do!

I use the EQs to improve the seamlessness of the mixing, use filters built in to my mixer occasionally, and don’t mix tracks where the keys will clash.

Do you speed up the tunes so that the voices sound like chipmunks?! That’s so annoying!!!

No – my equipment allows me to alter the speed of tracks without it affecting the pitch, so that if I choose to speed up a track by a sensible amount, the track still remains in the same key.

Booking Information

How much do you charge?

It depends upon a few things, mainly the location of the venue, how much in-house equipment the venue has, and the start and finish times of your event. Please get in touch to make an enquiry.

How far in advance to I have to book you?

Typically, one month’s notice is advisable.

The more notice you can give, the better, up to a maximum of 3 months. Short notice may have to incur a premium due to other commitments if you're dead set on having me play a certain date.

General

So, are you actually any good?

As DJing is a job that I thoroughly enjoy, I always put maximum effort into my gigs. Not only that, but as a lot of my work comes from recommendations from friends, or people seeing and hearing what I do at a friend’s event, you can be assured that your party will be in safe hands. Word of mouth brings in a large number of my bookings.

Don’t forget I have a whole host of experience at different events. See the About Me pages to learn a bit more about what I’ve done and where.

Do you play requests from people on the night?

Absolutely, although sadly I don't guarantee I will play every one. Some requests may be inappropriate for the event, and so will not be played. Others will be requested at an inappropriate time, and so may not be played either.

It’s really rare that I am not able to play a track because I don’t have it in my collection. Because of this, I will always discuss with you if there are any must-play or special songs you really want playing at your event, well before the day.

What do I need to provide you?

On the day, I need to work in a space of 3m by 1m by 3m (LxWxH), where there are a minimum of two, and preferably four standard 13 amp three-pin electrical mains sockets. I don’t need to use 16A 415v power.

I have a custom DJ stand which assembles on the day. This holds all my sound and lighting equipment in a safe way.

Additionally, you should let me know any special requests or must-play songs in advance of the event, so I can ensure I have them to hand on the day!
